Five Ways To Help Keep Your Street Safe
While no city is devoid of misdeeds, there's a lot you should do regarding neighborhood safety. Here are five effective ways to keep your community safe, secure, and inviting.
Meet your neighbors: The more you meet different community members, the simpler it will be to protect one another. Many neighborhoods in Salt Lake City have also started a formal neighborhood watch.
Install a home security system: If a robber trips a motion sensor, it may make them think twice about casing around that same community for a while. Your outside cameras may also capture intruders going through your front yard when running from a thwarted break-in.
Keep items out of sight in your vehicle: Leaving your wallet, iPad, or mobile phone in the car can invite a vehicular break-in. If you can, double check you have expensive items or hide them out of sight in a console compartment or trunk.
Put up motion flood lights: Burglars fear light. By installing motion-activated lighting over shadowed areas or a back doorway, you may fend off an intrusion before it begins.
Alert neighbors to when you’re out of town: Let a friend know when you’re going on vacation, and give them a spare key or door lock code to check-in periodically. Although, don’t post vacation plans to Facebook if at all possible.
